Definitely a question from a grower of the vandaceous LOL! Ten days seems fine to me, but i am a grower of Cattleyas and even the Sanhopea alliance, so really anything over a week is good by my book, and in some cases, over three days can really be a thrill! Haha.

I have so little space that I tend to look for something that lasts. The same for the garden.
They are certainly a beautiful orchid though.

I get bored with the same flowers open for months and months on end. Standard hybrid Phals are of no interest to me for this reason. Some of the species are different in that I'm a species snob, and it is nice to have some of them around for colour and blooms when I hit gaps in cattleya flowering, and I love having plants that bloom 2-3x a year. But i want to see new spikes growing and change and development and the whole life cycle just fascinates me, so nonblooming plants are not a detractor for me. But having the same ten blooms open on a spike for a year? Nah, I'd rather watch roots grow.

Viva la difference, n'est-ce pas?

I have plenty of orchids that I can watch grow. Ones like my phrag that I bought as a seedling and have been waiting 8 years for it to bloom. I just bought 2 vandaceous seedlings. Who knows how long to bloom?
It certainly takes patience!

Rlc. Goldenzelle 'Lemon Chiffon' I have had from that size and it is now getting aaaaaaachingly close to a first bloom. It may well bloom this year. It has put up empty little proto-sheaths on the last two rounds of growths and now the leaves are coming on huge so I hope this new eye breaking will be the first.

*holds breath*

I look good in blue, yes?

It is really satisfying when one that you have waited for blooms. I think my tolumnia may bloom this year.
I have just bought a BLC Phet Phaitoon on ebay. That will be a bit of a wait I think. So will the aeridovanda and rhynchorides. I can't wait!
