Yeah, the non-resupinate habit is really interesting. Well, I'm happy that, thanks to Mike, you have a name for your currently favorite Bulbo! Also happy that I know the name to add to my wish list!! It's just too cool.

Guys,
Mow that you believe me when I tell you that the plant in question is Bulbophyllum macranthum and not Bulbophyllum patens I must apologise. I am unable (today) to upload my photo of Bulbophyllum patens. Will kjeep truing during the weekend when phone rates are halved.
Here are 2 sites to check out Bulbophyllums :

:: Bulbophyllum von A bis Z | Bulbophyllum from A to Z | Orchideen Bilder | Orchid pictures ::
HARU'S BULB. PHOTO PAGE

When you get to the University of Vienna site click on "BULBOPHYLLUM" them choose "SECTION SESTOCHILUS" to see photos of Bulbophyllum macranthum but navigate through all the sections. These are two sites that I have added to my "FAVOURITES"

Now if you look at that very nice book by Jim Cootes ("The Orchids of the Philippines" no ISBN) you will see an illustration of Bulbophyllum emiliorum which looks (?exactly) like Bulbophyllum macranthum which does not occur in the Philippines.
Somebody said "Non King whatever that means". It means that King described a plant as Bulbophyllum macranthum or whatever name came before the "non King" part and when another taxonomist did a revision he transferred plants to synonyms of a valid name but excluded the "non King" one from being a synonym. Hope I have not confused you!!!

Sorry guys for the bad spelling in my previous post. It would appear that for some reason the website addresses did not make it across so I hope thta you can get to them.
Also forgot to mention that in that very nice little book by Peter O'Byrne ("A to Z of South East ASian Species" ISBN 981-04-4479-6) (go ahead spoil yourself - you deserve it!) there are nice clear photos of both Bulbophyllum patens and Bulbophyllum macranthum

The links came through fine, Mike...thank you

This is the site I use when I'm researching Bulbs:
BULBO AND CO

For some reason, the English version no longer works so you need to click on the French flag and navigate from there. All the information is coded with icons so you don't need to speak French to get key info.

Thanks Susanna B. I have added it to my favourites. For those people interested in Bulbophyllums they should think of joining clubBulbo. To do so go to :

Yahoo! Groups - Join or create groups, clubs, forums & communities

And look for clubBulbo and sign up. It costs nothing and you get messages about Bulbophyllums. the group has a wbsite were members post pictures of Bulbophyllums and you get information about Bulbophyllums.

I did notice thet macranthum was listed as patens no King (whatever that means) and that it was found earlier than the patens listed now...

I just want him to have a name
Laura N,
After a disappointing afternoon (we were knocked out of the Tri-Nations rugby competition by Australia ) I have finally succeeded in uploading my photo of Bulbophyllum patens to show you what it looks like. Before I acquired a digital camera, I had both Bulbophyllum macranthum and Bulbophyllum patens but both have gone to that greenhouse in the sky. I have replaced the Bulbophyllum patens with this one which is much darker than the previous one I had but have still to find another Bulbophyllum macranthum.
