Bulbophyllum phaleonopsis minimum temperature? Female
Default Bulbophyllum phaleonopsis minimum temperature?

Hello all, this is my very first post on this forum. I've been serious about orchids for about a year now. I just acquired a bulbophyllum phaleonopsis and it is the most expensive plant I have ever purchased, so while I am very excited I am also being extra cautious!

My question is, especially to people who live in a similar climate to me (South Florida East coast, zone 10A), what temperature do you bring it inside? Right now it's about 60° F at night (sometimes less it's supposed to go down to 48 soon) I brought it inside under a grow light, it's at 55% humidity and 77° inside. Once it gets warmer I will of course put it out on my patio and it will be perfect for it but in the meantime, am I doing the right thing? The longest leaf is about 13 inches and it's in a 4 inch pot. Any tips or advice is super appreciated!

Welcome!
I looked this one up, habitat minimum is 66 deg F. It's definitely a warm grower. So it does need to be inside now, for sure. It is still a baby (These can get huge). It will be happy outside most of the year, but for winter, it needs the warmth and protection of indoors.

Ok thank you! We probably got a few months inside per year then. I'm excited to watch it grow and thrive in the heat

Hi! I don't know if this can be useful to you. I keep mine always indoor, minimum might reach 57 F (13/14C) in winter, but I understand conditions can be completely different from yours. Also I tend to keep it a bit less wet in winter, so far so good - leaves are about 20 inches (50cm).

Mine is outside year round. On occasion, our air temp can get down briefly into the mid fifties at night during the winter and my plant seems to tolerate that just fine.

Thanks for the info I appreciate you! It's getting down to like 44° in a few days here so I'll keep it inside for now. Good to know it can handle a little cooler than mid 60s though. This is my first winter with orchids so I'm being very cautious I guess 😅
