Hi Shade.

In replay to your question about MOG. Here are a lot of comments that I agree with, so I may repeat some of them.

I don't believe she gives bad information but neither is good. I think she is inexperienced and her constant testing of growing orchids goes along with her advice to newbies without the indication or clearly saying "I don't have a clue but I am testing this or that". It is OK to test, but sometimes she talks like an expert and that is confusing. I know growers, that have been in the hobby for 50yrs and will never put their hand on fire like she dose, and the worse is she doesn't have to do that to have followers, she is talented as a YouTuber, no need to go deeper into facts that she couldn't have proven to herself just yet. Part of that is that she has change it her entire collection to 4 different cultural methods in the past 8 yrs and now she is back to 'traditional" bark. To me, that alone tells you that her goals are subjected to what she wants or needs or for business but not really what's best for the plant or species.

I appreciation the job she does, I know for fact is arduous and she is a professional, eloquent and correct YouTuber, but I don't agree with the "full statement approach".

I wish her and all youtubers or influencers the best! However, I would love them to become more reluctant about confirming subjects, topics, etc.

Also, a problem with the 'net is that even if she learns something new, the old YouTube videos stay out there on line... nothing on the internet ever dies. So people follow information even she admits is wrong because the updates don't overwrite the bad earlier information.

She can edit, label .. place warnings, even redirect the URLs from old videos to the actual ones. But for her is more profitable to have 100 videos with a little traffic than 10 with higher traffic. That is why she is posting constantly; to driving high traffic through the year to her "channel".

Google pays 2 ways: to high traffic channels and to high traffic videos. So she must be getting some revenue out of her channel traffic and not per video, that is besides getting sponsored with trials products here and there.

Orchid is not a subject to make money on the internet, there is a very limited audience, it is very small and the content is repetitive.

So, she must love orchids for real, that is why I don't dislike her but I don't follow her.

True, but she formerly lived in Romania, which would be a very different climate, and her earliest videos would have presumably originated in that country. Over the years, it's interesting to note that she has changed her opinion on many aspects of culture, just as an example, the type of pots she favors, and different potting media she has tried. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that; most of us have gone through the same thing as we have gained experience in the hobby.

I started my orchid hobby in 2015, and her videos were some of the first online orchid advice I came across, and I know at that time she was still in Romania, so a lot of her earlier videos would have been made there. I don't think she has been in Cyprus for more than a few years.

For the benefit of those who may have recently discovered this thread and have not read every page, I'll repost this link which I posted way back in 2018, on page two here. She joined the OB, made a total of 16 posts in 2013, and nothing since.

Hello from Romania!

I think I remember she openly said that she stopped participate in forums or in Facebook groups because the conversations and rationals were not up to her culture logic or environment sometimes...

I have the same impression Sade. As in she certainly likes orchids, and growing them. The fusarium 'saga' is well over now - which probably made a historical impact haha ------ where growers around the world probably saw fusarium everywhere - after the fusarium videos.

MOG is a good sort - as we can see from the way she presents herself. She does have a bit of a talent in talking - good public speaking skills for sure.

I generally don't follow her (videos) ------- only sometimes watch a video of hers --- when she does flowers video shoots.

What is this fusarium 'saga' about?

I like many of her specific video when I want to see operation like repotting. I can’t listen to her for long because she talks like she is talking to a kindergarten aundience (I cringe every time she said “that is a big No No” &#128514 but that is probably more my issue due to occupational hazard (I teach at an university). She is definitely getting paid well because of her YouTube popularity so having high expectations of the accuracy of her content is reasonable.
