Just leave the black root tip. If the plant is going to survive it won't hurt at all.

The problem was probably too-wet sphagnum. It's used in this method to supply a little humidity, not supply water to the roots.

It should be just damp to the point it isn't crisp, it is flexible in your hand and it is slightly cool. If it feels moist at all it's too wet. Getting sphagnum moist then wringing it out leaves it too wet for sphag and bag.

Thank you E. S. And this little plant oddly enough is growing I would almost say rapidly. It's new Leaf seems to be bigger everyday. Although I don't see any other roots on it it looks like it's going to make it.
