My husband bought this mounted encyclia yesterday. It has some yellowish leaves and some light green leaves. I never had this type of orchid. So any suggestions about its care and condition would be appreciated. I live in NYC. Temps are in 90F and humidity 45. I put it in the south facing window, behind a sheer curtain.

From my memo pad:"C U L T U R E ---Temperature:Warm to IntermediateLight:Most species do well in bright light.Water-Humidity:Medium humidity. If potted, roots should be permitted to dry out between waterings.Fertilizer:Balanced fertilizer, no particular rest period.Potting:Species grow well mounted on cork and can be potted in a medium-sized mix suitable for the grower’s conditions. Either a k. plastic or clay pot is also suitable. If high humidity and adequate moisture can be provided, plants do exceptionally well in baskets." I have mine in a clay pot with fir bark. Catt light, water at least 2x a week. The foliage is light green but, not yellowish. Mine just finished blooming.

I've had this plant mounted for several years close to you in Philadelphia. When I bought it it had three bulbs and now it puts out at least 10 spikes every year. Very easy. Water 2-3x per week or once a day when it's hot. You can tell when it needs water if the bulbs begin to shrivel. Mine are always fat and smooth. It will do well in your south window.

For clarity, the species is bractescens. No H.

Dollythehun and malteseproverb covered care well. I'd reiterate a mounted Encyclia might need watering every day when it's hot and dry.

The spelling matters because people searching for information might not find a thread with a misspelling.

I am soaking bark mount with roots daily for 20 minutes or so. Temps are in the 70’sF now. Humidity 40-50%. One of the Pbulbs turned this reddish color. The leaves are yellowing further, they are not light green maybe the pic was a bit misleading in the initial photo I posted. Is this normal? Thank you

Leaves turn yellow and drop on older bulbs. Totally normal. The purple comes from having a lot of light which is fine in my experience. If it's not squishy just leave the bulb be. It should begin putting out new roots and new growth soon!
