Growing Phal with no medium

So not sure how stupid this question is, but I've been growing my largest phalaenopsis orchid without any sort of potting media, except for a small bed of woodchips at the base of its pot to keep it upright. Is this a viable set up?
My setup for it is:
Glazed ceramic 8" pot, about a half-inch layer of fir chips/large perlite pebbles at the base, orchid sitting on top of the chips. Cork board keeping orchid from leaning, ambient humidity anywhere from 65-85%, growing in bright sun.
I just water it by soaking the plant's roots in distilled water for about 10 minutes every few days or so.
So far, it has grown healthy roots, and flowered just fine but I was curious if there would be any long-term consequences if I kept it like this indefinitely.

How long have you had it? If YOU bloomed it (not in spike when purchased) and it has healthy roots, my personal opinion is if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

I think with that kind of humidity you will be fine. Welcome to the board.

I’ve had it for like 18 months. I personally was able to get it to spike. Bright light? Not sure how to get a specific metric, but it’s a south window with some shade provided by my nepenthes, so it gets full sun some time through the day and nearly full shade for a few hours too. No sunburns so far.

Okay, yeppers... Eighteen months. As said, don't fix what isn't broken. If it's been growing/spiking, what's more to want?

Good growing! And yes, that's excellent humidity. How do you achieve that? Where you live, or supplement with what?

My house has around 50% ambient humidity to begin with, but I just have some humidifiers and evaporation trays in my grow room. Coupled with a big south-facing window, and it really can turn into a greenhouse. Plus, it's not a big room to begin with, and it's filled with nepenthes and heliamphora so just the plants breathing creates a lot of moisture.
