Default Generous Orchid Society

I joined the local Orchid Society and every time I go, they send me home with another beautiful orchid. I feel very blessed to be involved with this group.

Here's the rub though: the plant they gave me is not easy to find information on it. Its label says "Epicat Moonmist 'John Ward.'"
I assume this is a hybrid between an Epidendrum and a Cattleya. Is Moonmist the Grex name?

I was just going to take care of it like a Cattleya. Does anyone have this one so I can see the flowers? When is it supposed to bloom? Does it need a dormancy? Does it prefer to be potted in bark mix or what?
Any other information very welcome. Here's a picture.

I agree with Dolly - grow it like a cattleya.

However, there is another issue here in that there is no registered hybrid of Epicat. Moonmist. There are both a phalaenopsis and a rodrumnia by that name, but we're not mistaking them for your plant.

There is an Epicat Moonmoth (now Cattleychea) that is Prosthechea mariae x Cattleya harrisoniana.

If we look at Moon Mist (2 words), we have a phalaenopsis (nope) and a prosavola (Brassavola nodosa x Prosthechea radiata).

Guess we'll see when it blooms.

I don't have any crosses like this one but good luck with it. That's very nice of them to feed the addiction.

I agree it's a very nice gesture to hand out plants to members. Were I a club member, I would suggest when the plant is being presented, presumably to a newer orchid grower?, that some simplistic care instructions be also given along with the plant. Or a topic of conversation during the meeting. Just a suggestion. I'm sure the desire is to promote the passion, and growing an orchid gift well is much more encouraging than a failure due to lack of knowledge.

It didn't survive winter so sadly we wont ever have an answer to this one. I had it in an east facing bathroom but the bathroom didnt have a vent for the heater and it got down to almost freezing in there (and even colder right next to the old, drafty window).
