what causes new phal leaves to grow smaller ? Female
Default what causes new phal leaves to grow smaller ?

If light and temperature along with humidity are adequate could it be they need more nitrogen ? I feed weakly-weekly with mostly Dyna-Gro orchid pro which is a 7-8-6 formula and do have Miracid here {30-10-10} Any advise is appreciated .

The first thing that comes to mind is: Are you sure they're done growing? I've never done any measuring to actually determine when mine stop growing, but it does seem like it takes months for them to mature.

Check your watering schedule. This is often a sign of inadequate water.

I believe they are done growing as more new leaves have appeared that are also smaller. I think when another leaf grows the previous one is done growing?

I am more likely to overwaterr . A lack of sufficient root system would be a reason for inadequate uptake of water to the leaves as well ?

If this is a new Phal, it could be that's it's still having some trouble adjusting to your conditions. I've had Phals do that when they went through periods of neglect: not enough water and no fertilizer during their growing season. (Yes, I was a bad orchid mom, but went through a rough period a couple years ago)

If it is happening with all the newer leaves, it can also be a result of better/more intense light. Brighter light = less leaf surface is needed.

That's true and I've seen it on my own Phals, though the leaves tend to be narrower rather than shorter. The OP would need to post some photos.

These are good suggestions. I am really stumped ! The phal with the most extremely small leaves is starting a spike. Older leaves were around a 14'' spread and now down to about 6''. The plant and roots look very healthy. I will post a picture when I figure out how.

For the photos, I don't have time to properly reply so have a look at my post from earlier today in this thread, it might help.
