Well, there will be debate, no doubt...but, I soak mine. I'm sure some water gets on the crown in the process.It hasn't seemed to hurt anything. I think the growing conditions and the health of the plant have a lot to do with crown rot. So, when I say soak, I mean roots. In the wild water gets in the crown.
