my thoughts exactly! another fantastic reason to open a bottle. you think it makes a difference to the orchids whether it's white, red, or rose?

The question is...... does 3 buck chuck have real corks or plastic?
Pace yourself! Wine bottles with real corks are not that cheap, I've found. Thank goodness for wine tasting occasions at the neighboring ski area. And buying good wine could cut into our orchid purchase money. Have to weigh that factor in.
However!!!!!! Red wine is suppose to be good for us humans....so bottom line is.........(drum roll please), it's a win win situation. Wine and orchids....orchids and wine!

ooh i can't remember. i haven't lived close to trader joes for about 6 months so that was last i had one of those. they're not bad actually. i was pretty surprised. but i can't remember about the corks. ny state tax for wine is ridiculous so even a regular bottle ends up "higher range" than you'd think. and digging into the orchid pot. so to speak.

Am I the only one who doesn't bother putting peanuts in the bottom of my pots? I really don't like them because the roots grow through them and when it's time to repot they're impossible to get off without breaking the root.

Hi Ruthann,
You live in wine country? Hummmmm, it's best if I come show you.
I use them in all orchids. Anywhere you might put peanuts in the bottoms.
I also have my brassavola little stars and brassavola maiki hanging in 6" octogonal wooden basket with only corks and no other medium. The roots are so happy, they just go everywhere (probably drunk). The corks are more natural.

Even the plastic wine corks will do though the chid won't burrow into them.

For packing peanuts I second the notion of dropping by any retail store like Ritz Camera and inquiring about the peanuts. IME, any of the retail stores are only too happy to give them to you
