Default Sharry Baby Blooming

My Sharry Baby on idiom orchid is now blooming with 7 large spikes and filling the greenhouse with a fragrance I can't quite describe, sort of chocolate. It must have a hundred or more flowers and has been blooming for more than a month. It was a Lowe's Baggie a couple years ago and lives in a wooden slatted basket filled with half sphagnum moss and half medium bark mix. It hangs on the back porch from April to November getting morning sun. Would love to post a photo but this iPad doesn't do URLs, only photos.

LC purple cascade has a wonderful fragrance, as do many brassia. Pescatoria Dayana is my favourite scent.

Newberry Pixie Cherokee is now filling the greenhouse with its fragrance. First bloom of a seedling purchased from Carter&Holmes this spring.

I scanned this out of a book, it is surely by no means complete.

I had to send Mackaii back to the greenhouse. The smell of Easter Flowers was much too strong. You may like it.

Oncidium Sharry baby does smell like chocolate with vanilla, and twinkle smells like vanilla with chocolate.

Gongorgas and Stanopias tend to have heavy, intense scents. I have a Gongorga "Golden Condor" hybrid and the hanging spike smells strongly of potporie. Oncidiums often have very sweet smelling blooms. "Sharry Baby" is known for its chocolate smell. Brassavola nodosa smells strongly of a perfume called "Wind Song". It is fragrant only after dark. Many Cattleya hybrids have scents either like lemon or hyacinth. Their relatives the Laelias often have delicious licorise smells. Of course there is the other end of the spectrum. Bulbophyllums often smell of decaying flesh or excrement. Pleurothallids often smell like mushrooms, especially the Draculas.
