Mealy bugs?

I bought this only a couple months ago. Vigorous growth. I sprayed it with a systemic (the Bayer one) a month ago. Is this mealybugs? Never had them. I have had scale though and have been using a systemic all summer and fall. I just found this today

Yes indeed that is a mealy bug. Squish it like now.

Some pests can develop resistance to pesticides (known example is spider mites). Maybe it happens also with mealy bugs.
Are you also wiping the leaves with an alcohol solution? That's one important part of the treatment.

When I had to deal with them, all the info I've found said so. In fact I repoted the plant and changed the medium.

I used Bayer 3-in-1 a month ago. I usually alternate that with Talstar but I didn't spray this one a second time since I've only had it about 2 months. I've just sprayed every plant that was in that room and in fact the entire second floor plus just about every other plant worth pulling outside. Thank god it is pretty warm and sunny outside since I have so many in spike! Ugh. I used Bayer again. We will see. I couldn't find any on the other plants but there was some white fuzz on another part of the Catt I found it on. I'm not repotting if I can help it. It's too late in the year. This plant is thriving otherwise. Oh I also washed all around the area and all the cache pots and saucers. Should I soak the plant? I sprayed a lot and including in the root area enough that it flushed through the pot.

I have found them in the bark, so I always treat the media too, which should get the roots as well. Failing that, I re-pot and clean the whole plant. But a systemic with imidacloprid should work.

You must spray it more than once, once per week, to cover the complete life cycle of the bugs. Sistemic won't kill the eggs so if it happens to sparay it without the existing eggs have hatched, the second generation will survive.
I sprayed my plants 3 to 4 times, once a week (after repoting and change medium). Remember, wipe the complete plant (I really mean the whole plant, crevasses and under side of the leaves) with an alcoholic solution before each spray.

What does the alcohol do? I did use alcohol to remove the stuff I found. I think I will soak in Talstar next week when it's time for watering and use the Bayer the week after that.
