I've been trying vase culture with a NOID phal for several months now. There is no growing medium, just bare roots down in the vase with the leaves holding up the top. I fill the vase with water and/or very dilute fertilizer every day for an hour or two, then drain completely. (It's summer, hot and very dry here.) There's a lovely new leaf starting up, and the roots are growing and branching (thanks Ray for the KelpMax!). There is no mold at all, the plant looks really healthy, and it's fun to gaze at the roots through the clear vase. I'm starting to wonder, though, if I should be giving it some "real" hydroponic complete food for orchids? Any suggestions ya'll? Thanks!

To use a colloquial phrase, "don't fix what ain't broke".

Any water-soluble fertilizer that includes N, P, K, and micronutrients should be fine. If you are already providing that, no need to change.
