Catasetum with no dormancy?
Default Catasetum with no dormancy?

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Fdk. After Dark in spike. Everything went well with the blooms, and the last ones dropped off around the new year. My impression with catasetum-type orchids was that they went into dormancy for a long while in the winter, so I have it on a table not close to natural light, and I've been ignoring it.

Yesterday I noticed, to my surprise, that there's a new growth about two inches high and five or six short new roots already, totaling probably a little over an inch in length.

What do I do now? Should I put it in a bright window and start watering? I'm confused!

Thanks!

Put it in bright light and when the roots are 3"-4" long start watering. Your plant knows what it needs and when it needs it far better than any book, article, or internet post.

Thanks, Subrosa. I moved it into the light.

Does anyone know if it's normal for this plant to skip the dormancy? Since it's starting to grow now, will it bloom sooner than a year from now, even if it's still warm? Just curious about how this will affect its cycle.
