The greenhouse ecology! - Orchid Board

This summer we have had geckos in the greenhouse (they have their own special access so they can get in and out) and every now and then I have discovered a treefrog hidden away, but now we have something new. This is Tweety Pie. Not sure what he is, but he has been roosting in the greenhouse for the last week. I shut the doors after dusk, after making sure he is in there and then I let him out in the mornings.

I swear to Dog that this computer hates me. I was sure I had posted a damn pic.

Anyway, here s/he is. (fingers crossed.) This morning Jan let him out as I was late up, and this time there were two of them.

Nice. Do they find their way out OK? We have had a bird get into our garage thru the large garage door occasionally and for whatever reason, they can never figure out how to get back out. Even when the garage inside is rather dark and there is daylight streaming in thru the gaping open door. We've had to use a fish net and catch them (not easy) and put them out

I know exactly what you mean, but he seems to have it sussed. I just went in as it's shutting up time, and he's there again, but not his little friend, so I'll wait till it gets dark.

Yeah, I know, I'm a soft old sod when it comes down to it.

We are old softies too. One day we had been staying at the lake, and left our 3 cats out there to make a run home to water orchids, tend to the yard etc. We always head back the same evening so no harm comes to the cats. Well, a bird got into the garage and there was no way it would leave. So we felt we couldn't head back to the lake and leave it for a week before we made our next trip home. So our cats went hungry that night and we stayed home and in the morning with the help of a neighbour and a big fish net, we finally got it out. Geesh, I guess that is where the term bird brain comes from. But whose?? The bird or us

Yeah, they can get in thru a crack, but cant get out thru an open door.

It's chucking it down outside, so I'm glad he has somewhere dry to sleep.
I look at out dogs sleeping - on the sofa no less, in front of the wood burning stove, and I think about the labrador across the road who lives on the end of a chain with a bit of corrugated iron to sleep under, and I really wish I could take them over ad explain just how lucky they are.

Yeah, in some ways they are. ESPECIALLY when you look at how some dogs here are just thrown on the streets unwanted. The dog charities here are just unable to cope.

We see abused or neglected dogs around here, too. We live in a small town surrounded by farmland so people just dump cats and dogs off at the farms. Our dogs think they are neglected if I take more than a minute to let them back inside the house or I forget to give them their afternoon or evening snack. They have no real idea.
