Default Where to sell orchids

I have a moderately sized orchid collection and recently decided to clear out most of my collection. Cattleyas have always been a favorite of mine (especially the large standard catts) and I am hoping to replace all my other orchids with cattleyas. I have dendrobium nobiles, phalaenopsis, oncidiums, and other orchids that I'm trying to find a new home for. I can't really afford to give them away as these are worth about $400+. Where are good places to sell "secondhand" orchids? I currently have a classified ad on OB as well as Craigslist. I'm hoping to get a reasonable price for them, so any suggestions are welcome. I know that I can probably get a higher price if I sell them at an orchid society or on eBay, but the closest orchid society to me is a 20 minute drive away (I don't have a car) and I don't want to bother with shipping (or agricultural restrictions). If it makes any difference, I'm in Davis, CA. I have also included a list below.

---Paphiopedilum---

Paph. Green Gold 'Invierno Oro' HCC/AOS in 5 inch pot. Blooming size.

---Phalaenopsis---

Dtps. Little Gem 'Stripes' in 3 inch pot. Blooming size!

---Miltoniopsis---

Miltoniopsis Saffron Surprise x Miltoniopsis Maui Sunset in 6 inch pot. In bloom! Fragrant! Specimen size!

Miltoniopsis Linda Lingle in 4 inch pot. Blooming size! Fragrant!

---Dendrobium---

Dendrobium Sea Mary 'Snow King' in 4 inch pot. Blooming size! Fragrant!

Dendrobium Nobile Sea Mary 'Snow King' in 4 inch pot. In bloom! Fragrant!

Dendrobium Nobile hybrid in 4 inch pot. Blooming size fragrant!

Dendrobium Nobile Fancy Angel 'Lycee' in 5 inch pot. Blooming size! Fragrant!

Dendrobium Nobile Red Emperor 'Prince' in 5 inch pot. Blooming size! Fragrant!

---Oncidium---

Oncidium Twinkle 'Pink Profusion' in 3 inch pot. Blooming size! Fragrant!

Oncidium Sharry Baby in 6 inch pot. The ultimate chocolate orchid! Fragrant! In multiple (8) spike!!

---Cattleya---

Lc. Angel Love x C. skinneri in 3 inch pot. Blooming size! Fragrant!

You might consider having a local Saturday "Orchid Yard Sale". Set a Sat. that fits your schedule, arrange and price the plants and put an ad in your local paper under "yard sales" or a similar topic.

Although you undoubtedly paid more for them individually, you will probably not get more than $3-$10 dollars apiece, depending on the size of the plant and whether or not they are in bloom. Congratulations on having the names on the plants which will attract some value, but unfortunately, not of primary interest for most of the "sidewalk shoppers".

It is a shame you cannot affiliate with one of the local orchid groups, as the Sacramento societies are very dynamic groups!

Have you considered selling them on eBay? You'd have to include a shipping cost too, but that's a way to go. Otherwise some orchid societies have sales at their meetings to sell to other members.

I just want to say, for the record, I've bought some of MrHungx's plants (including a GLORIOUS massive Lc. Park Ridge 'Thornridge'), and they are well cared for and healthy. So, if anyone from Northern CA is considering it, it might be worth the trip! :-)

Probably going to be difficult to get a good price without shipping.

Dang it!
I would love to get Miltoniopsis Saffron Surprise x Miltoniopsis Maui Sunset .
It is such a gorgeous yellow one.

Well, can you not have your parents give you a ride to the society?
Or somehow if you are a member, contact the society and have interested people come over and buy.

Actually, I'm in northern California for university and will be back in southern California for the summer. If I haven't sold it until then, I might be able to hold it for you and ship it when I get back to San Diego. If you're interested, send me a PM.

I'm not a member of the nearest (Sacramento) society due to the commute. That might be a good thing though since I won't be tempted by all the pretty orchids! :big grin:

Edit: I just wanted to add that the Miltoniopsis Saffron Surprise x Miltoniopsis Maui Sunset is my most fragrant miltoniopsis.

Oh, but I will be mostly in Europe during the summer.
Sell it locally if you can.
