handy setup to share

I was reading somewhere on here about someone watering there orchids by going to the sink, watering, replacing it, grabbing the next, and so forth. I thought that was just way too much work! So I thought I'd share my set up that makes life much easier!

1 shallow sweater box (walmart)
1 piece of egg crate (Lowes)
Lots of zipties
and a drill
I think you can get the idea of construction from the pictures. Super easy.

I just water my plants (On my light cart) and let the water run through the pot. Thats it! The water that accumulates in the bottom creates humidity, if the water builds up too far I just suction some off. No running to the sink, just water and enjoy!

you can use this setup on a cart, windowsill, anywhere just by modifying the size and shape of the plastic box

Great idea! I've seen similar things on OB in the past, but since I can't find egg crate over here, I'm one of those people that runs to the sink. Though I did make something similar by putting an unused oven rack over a large tray filled with leca. But it's only large enough to place a dozen orchids...

I do this already. I use large boot trays too because they have built in egg crate. One issue with this is mosquito larva.

Great setup and looks super easy , Egg crate ?.. i am not sure our stores have them , what section is this displayed in ?. The under the bed storage bins is a great idea , thanks

You can find egg crate where the ceiling tiles are or in the lighting section. They are used for drop ceiling lighting. They come in huge pieces that are easily cut to size

One thing to add- i add a little bit of bleach to the water. Since i keep them inside, no bugs survive in the bleach water, and keeps algae from forming

Mosquito dunks work great, too.

Or... You can install tray drains and collect the liquid in a 5-gallon bucket.
