Found this today...learned that Sc does not stand for Schomburgkia but Sophrocattleya! Now I have to go get a schomburgkia to replace the one I thought I had

I've seen a few sheets on abbrev. we have the latin's to thank, check out Rays Orchids~Orchid Genera Listing under free information...it's unbelievable. There will be a test on your list Monday morning...lol

Both Suzanne's list and mine are quite abbreviated.
Bob Betts (yes the guy one of the best "standard white" catts is named for, and one you'll find in the background of a lot of hybrids) maintains a very extensive list:

I just happened upon that list while looking for something specific...how devastating to find that Sc is sophrocattleya and not schomburgkia, which is what I thought I had! Is it possible to feel like you lost something that you never actually had?

It should be time to rejoice when you have a Schombocattleya (Smbc. for short)! Especially if it looks like this:

I think Schomburgkia is now known as Mymercophila - not sure what that will abbreviate into!
