Default cat attack!

happy mothers day everyone! ok, so my mom loved the orchid we got her (turns out is was a oncidium wildcat yellow butterfly... found the tag tucked under one of the big bulbs, good call guys!)... but them she left the door to the room open forgetting that my sister has 2 mischievous cats. long story short, we found the 2 little guys mauling the plant. we cut down the leaves that were in the worst condition... left the rest... hope it well be okay. at least we got to them before they got to the flowers! what do you guys think? will it survive?

wow - they sure attacked that one. but it looks like the most damage is one the leaves, not the bulbs - i bet it grows out over time...

The leaves may never look excellent but since the bulbs and roots are intact you will be okay. The plant may sulk a bit because of its treatment. But I dont think you have anything to be worried about. It may also be a good conversation piece until the leaves drop. When cats attack...

Trim the most shredded leaves with a new single edge razor blade to just below the shred. They will die back to that point anyway as there is insufficient healthy connective tissue to allow them to regrow. It will save the plant's strength for regrowing new leaves.

Your plant will be just fine. Give it time and keep it away from the hungry kitties.

Survive? Which? The evil cats or the plant? If it were mine I'd bet on the plant! Next years growth potential is held in the pbulbs. The plant has had a small setback but it will survive nicely. Cym Lady told you how you need to proceed. As for the evil cats.......

yes, we brought the orchid back home last night. the cats got banished into the washroom for the rest of the night... though one of the little buggers is smart enough to open the door... sigh... we actually bought 2 new orchids this week, one for my mom and the other for my sister's MIL... luckily the other orchid did not endure as much damage. it would have been sad to gift an orchid with no leaves! lol

Oh no

I'm pretty sure the plant will survive this, but how annoying is that!

I'm so sorry but it will be fine. I have three cats that I love but one of mine eats any plant I bring inside so all my orchids are outdoors...of course I'm in Florida and able to do that. I had a very expensive veterinary visit once from the cat eating a flower that was poisonous!

It will survive, but it looks a bit dehydrated.
