Also, maybe of interest but off topic, if you use this same set-up of bottle and put a bit of sugar water or etc in the bottom, they are great catchers of flies and wasps. Just chuck 'em in the trash once they get yuckified with too many dead bugs.

If I were even greener, I'd rinse and reuse them when used for bug catchers...but just.can't.do.it. The bleech factor is too much for me.
Now to figure a way to both grow orchids and catch bugs to feed them in the same container.....if only I were as smart as a Sarracenia!

Question: plastic bottles fall over very easily. How stable are they, with a possibly tall plant?

I don't have a perfect answer, but mine don't because they are filled with LECA in the bottom and only for transition of A.Violets. Tried it without the top part for a regular S/H container... too flimsy for me. Maybe because I'm clumsy.

You could always put some pebbles in the bottom for weight.

I cut open a few seltzer water bottles and I am using both the botoms and tops for mine. I opened holes in the bottom and cut slits vertically slipped a piece of tape and they are hanging on my kitchen window. I have to buy a few suction cups for easier removal.

Definitely, you can use the Pepsi Cola bottle as a pot. Aside from drinking it's content to speed up your metabolism and burn fat; recycling the bottle is a good idea as well. Just clean it well and you're good to plant orchids there. Anyways, to know more about the fat blocking Pepsi special read on: personalmoneynetwork

Soda bottles work well. I am in the process of converting some of my orchids - mainly those with a huge root system, like zygos and miltoniopsis. Problem I have is finding the 2l bottles ! Last recycling day I only found 2 in our neighbourhood and I must have looked ( briefly, not scrounged ! ) in about 25 containers.
