Default help for my poor jewel orchid

Hi,
I hope someone can help me with my jewel orchid. As you can see the leaves have started turning brown and falling off. It's the second leaf that's come off and now the big one is next. I received it in moss and planted it in African violet mix and dipped the stem in rooting powder also. I have it sitting in a south facing window that gets plenty of light. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Maybe too much light? How close is it to the window? What temperatures and humidity do you have? I grow mine in a south-facing window, too, but it is shaded by other plants and it isn't against the glass. I have mine in a mix of styrofoam peanuts and NZ sphagnum moss in a basket pot for good drainage and I keep the moss damp. Due to it being very cold outside and the humidity being lower than usual inside, I have it in a tall, clear plastic container to keep a little more humidity around the leaves. I hope this helps a bit. Hopefully some of the people who have had these longer will offer you some advice. I've only had mine since September. Good luck!

It may be the mix. If it has fertilizer in it, it may be too strong or not the right type. Your leaves look like they have chemicle burns.

Thanks for the replies! Since it could have been the mix I got some Jewel Orchid mix from repotme. It is really great looking mix. In the pic I have 3 different pots, 1 that has only slits, 1 has 3 holes in the bottom and another that is the bigger one. Which should I use? Also when should I fertilize?

Has it developed a good root system? The newer leaves look fine, maybe just cut off the fading leaf and the dead one. Also temperatures past their range can make it do this, although its been years since I've grown one.

Oh, and can I have that last piece of cake in the background??

Please let us know how you like the Jewel Orchid mix from repotme. I have had good success with their mixes but I have not tried this one. Right now all of my jewels are in sphagnum moss.

So far it's working really well, the orchid has even grown a bit I think. I will take pics in the morning.

Looking much better. I think I over fertilized them before.

Showing new growth finally. This jewel orchid is hard to keep alive, I keep killing off the leaves. What do you think?

I can't figure out why my pics keep turning. When I post them they are right side up. Strange.
