It's time for a new round of: Spike or Root? Female
Default It's time for a new round of: Spike or Root?

I know this gets asked a lot in the beginner section. This little growth has me getting excited though. I'm hoping it's a spike. If it is, this little plant is a trooper, because it's been overwatered, sunburned and somehow, it manages to keep on going and going, like the energizer bunny. My daughter will be thrilled if this is a spike, but I believe this little guy is now mine. She's afraid to take it back after I saved it from her care a few months ago. LOL!

So here it is. Help a gal out! Spike or root?

Thanks OB folks! If it's a spike, it owes its existence to you all.

It is pointing straight up so that makes it look like a spike, However, it is very fat looking so that makes it look like a root. I'm going to say fat spike since it is pointing skyward. At least I'm hoping for a spike for you.

Spike. Root. Spike. Root.

Might as well just flip a coin!

I'm leaning towards spike -- the upward pointing seems like it would be a spike to me.

I retract my vote. If you look really closely it looks to have a couple bracts on it. That would indicate a spike. Can you take a new picture and maybe a close-up?
