It was a sunny 7 degrees F. in New Hampshire the other day. Could be worse though. The ground has yet to get covered in snow. Yet.......

That is a beautiful area. And don't complain about the rain too much. It's what makes things so green and lush! You'd miss it if it wasn't there. Trust me. I live in Southwest Washington but am currently in dry, barren Pullman for college. And now the weather forecast is starting to predict sub-zero temperatures! That's a first for me. I miss home! 10 days and I'm out of here for Christmas Break!!!

Oooh, that area is beautiful! But yes, even with the beauty of the place, I would grow tired of the rain at times.

I grew up in Wyoming... lots of snow and lots of days that never get out of the single digits. I hated it as a kid and always wanted to live somewhere with warmer winters. Now I can't wait to get back to someplace like it! lol The cold doesn't bother me as long as the sun is shining, and in Wyoming, it always was. It feels warm on your skin... but your nose hairs are still frozen!

I've never been to the East coast, but I've hear that NH is very pretty. Pretty major winter storms though right?

Singapore. I'm in an island state and this is NOT part of China. We are a size a little less than three times Washington DC. Orchids are one of our exports.

There are no greenhouses as the heat is plentiful and free. And it rains too much so humidity is 80% all year round. Orchids grow out in the open. They are cheap too. Usually USD$5 to $10 per grown plant, with three stems and maybe 5 flower sprays on it.

Orchids are on display everywhere -- at the airport and in all the hotels. Some garden supplier gets a contract to change these every week, so you get huge arrays of orchid plants everywhere which are blooming and never seen to wither!

Orchids are encased in plastic and electro-formed with gold into beautiful souvenirs.

Our National Flower is the Orchid - Vanda Miss Joaquim, which is V flos-aeris x V hookeriana - a natural cross found in the garden of Miss Agnes Joaquim who lived here in the 1800's. This flower is grown in huge numbers in Hawaii as it is also Hawaii's State Flower.

We have no design for our National Dress -- and we simply wear any type of shirt or tie, or top or gown with orchids on them to qualify as being in National Dress.

A few years ago I saw a small jungle of Vanda Miss Joaquim growing in an old Japanese cemetery in Hawaii, near Kapa'a on Kauai. It was blooming all over and growing down a hillside also -- quite an amazing site!

Hi,
I live in Englewood, Ohio. About 3 miles North of Dayton, Ohio. It's freezing here as well. I hate to think what my heating bill for the greenhouse will be this year.

Yes, NH is VERY pretty. During most of the year, we are fond of telling visitors to come and enjoy our States beauty, then go back home!

During the rest of the year, only the skiers and winter sports folks enjoy the what the State has to offer.
We are just recovering from our worst ice storm in history, and after about a week, mostly everyone has power again. My orchids only remained warm due to our emergency generator. Thank goodness for technology and backup systems!!
