Where in the orchid world do you live?

I live twenty miles west of Orlando where I am very close to being able to grow outdoors but can't because of a few winter days of temperatures in the thirties. So, I grow most all of my plants in a greenhouse. I have a lot of very large trees in my back yard and I have frequently imagined how nice it would be to have all of the trunks covered with orchids.

I live in Washington state... Right next to the northern tip of Lake Washington. I have about two hundred orchids and about ten or more grow outside all year round! A few Cypripediums, pleoine, den kingianum and others! The rest are in my spare room under lights =)

It is amazing to see the number of members literally scattered all over the world. However, it took 17 threads to find the first Californian and 28 to find the first Northern Californian! There must be more here than just us two, White Rabbit.

I live in Mérida on the northern tip of the Yucatan peninsula in México. We're just finishing renovating an old house and I'm anxious to start populating it with orchids. They can grow outside, our lows are rarely in the mid 50's F or 13C. It's humid, warm and tropical with a distinct wet and dry season. I'm leaning towards mounting everything either on trees, coconut shells or rock walls. I've learned a lot here, thank you.

What do you do to get rid of the snow? Bet it's hard to get snowblowers there, eh? What time in the morning do the snowplows come through. Just kidding Must be a wonderful existance there with that climate?

Yes, snow removal would be a problem

We just came out of a cold spell, some of the cold air from up north drifted down, and it's wonderful to have it back up in mid 80'sF again. We were all in sweats and down jackets when it was 70F last week.

I'm originally from California, I don't 'do' snow!! It got too cold up there for me though and I headed south. I love the weather here, the food, culture and music aren't half bad either.

Oh how I envy you! Mid 80's is something I can only deream of at this time of year. I spent my morning shoveling snow and trying to dig my bike out. It's so so cold outside! There's more in the forecast for tonight/tomorrow... Snow isn't even fun in the Netherlands, there are no hills to go sledding.

I live in Davao City, Philippines. Home of the famous euanthe sanderiana and othe Philippine orchid species. I grow my orchids outside and I have now successfully mounted them on trees!!! Thanks to orchidboard for lots of great info and tips on chid growing
