Default Orchids species getting extinct?

Oh, wow! Growing wild and without fertilising and watering. Hawaii must have the perfect weather for the Vanda Miss Joaquim.

I made a mistake with the parentage. It is Vanda teres x vanda hookeriana. I mixed it up with arachnis flos-aeris, one of my favourite plants which is a chocolate-coloured spider orchid with the most heavenly scent! Nowadays nobody grows these anymore.

You know, slow-growing plants that bloom once in a while and hence cannot be used for the cut-flower trade are just neglected so that I'm sure many have gone extinct, and nobody cares. But I do, muchly.

Maybe we should bring these to Hawaii and let them grow wild !

Hi Mimia, it is very interesting to me to hear from people from all parts of the world.

What are some of the popular varieties grown by people in your area?

Hi, Leisurely
Most popular are phalaenopsis and dendrobium hybrids amaong "normal people".
Orchid enthusiasts ( orchiholists? orchid freaks? ) grow a wide range of species. Most popular are cattleyas, dendrobiums, paphiopedilums, coelogynes, phalaenopsis species, some prefer miniatures which tehy grow in orcidariums.

Well since I signed up and am enjoying reading about ya'lls accomplishments I guess I'll throw in on this thread also.
We live in the High Plains Desert of South Eastern Colorado where nothing but buffalo grass will grow without heavy irrigation.
I also have some property do in Fla South East of Chassahowitzka but I’ll never live there. Nice weather but to many people now days.
