New growth got shut in window :( Female
Default New growth got shut in window :(

Hi everyone!

I had the windows open this afternoon and it suddenly started to POUR and thunderstorm very badly, so I ran into the bedroom to close the window. One of my cats followed me and as I was slamming the window closed (they slide open left to right, not up and down ) he jumped up onto the bookshelf by the window and knocked the plant! It got slammed shut in the window.

This is the new growth on this cattleya, I am soooooo sad. What should I do? Is there anything I CAN do? Will it die? This poor little plant has had it rough. It has been working so hard on its growth for me. I am so sad.

Help!

I feel so bad, this orchid is a bit of a runt, lol. My other guys go crazy growing and he's like the little engine that could. Ugh, I feel so horrible. It's got open cuts on it, should I spray it with some physan or some neem oil or something??

Just dab cinnamon on the cuts. It should be ok. cinnamon works as a anti fungal and will help 2 fight infection

Actually after i posted that I started to wonder myself. I have used it for areas where i have cut the leaves off. But I am thinking the physon may cause bleaching of the cut leaf area....hmmmm...very good question indeed....

Well I'll give it a bump as you are stuck with two newbies. knowing me I would just leave it alone. But it is fairly dry where I am so not sure if humidity would be an issue or not. I would think it would be like if say grasshoppers ate your plants hahah kindrag23.....I had to use that one.

I think it will get a scab on it for lack of a better term.

I wouldn't worry about it.

You may put some cinnamon on the damaged areas of the leaf without having to worry about desiccating the leaves. The leaves are different from the roots, because the leaves have a waxy layer protecting the cells; the roots don't.

Of course, you don't have to put anything on there and it will still be ok.

Like "No-Pro-mwa" had said, its only going to scar.

I would dab some cinnamon on the open wounds. It won't hurt it a bit. It would probably heal ok without the cinnamon but I don't like to chance it. It won't hurt any potential blooms if this is old enough to bloom.
