Question Older Threads

As a very new member I'm having some difficulty at times in navigating the OB. For example, I try to look over the new posts each day and note threads that are of particular interest to me but I don't know how to go about locating them a couple of days later when they're no longer in the "new posts."

Also, can someone please explain what the "sticky" threads are and what the various projects are??

I think other newcomers would find these
things of interest too.

Hi Shirley

Anything that you normally find in "New Posts" are actually held within a certain forum, based on what the post pertains to. Next time you open a new post, take a look at the top portion of the page that opens and you'll see what forum it is really in. You can get into any of the forum pages by clicking on FORUMS in the column on the left side of any page.

Sticky notes are threads which have some special characteristic that we feel should be kept available at all times. When you open a forum, any sticky notes that are in that forum will be at the top of the list.

Projects are something we've done here a few times in which a number of members from all around the world decide on a particular orchid which we all buy and then care for in our own conditions. It helps us to learn about orchids that we might never have known about...and hopefully, how to grow them

For more info on the projects, go to the Contests & Polls forum...but right now, there are no open projects. The next one will probably not start for a few months.

Shirley - If you are looking for a past thread no longer in most recent posts, you can also go to the search option and type in any number of words that pertain to the subject that you are looking for and waah laaa .. it's right there at your fingertips

You can also subscribe to threads. In the pink bar above the post at the top of the page, there is a Thread Tools option from which you can choose to subscribe to a thread of interest. Then, go to the User CP page and in the left column you'll find Subscribed Threads - List Subscriptions where you can view the selected threads. Also you can go to Edit Options from the User CP page and choose email notification of subscribed threads so that you will be contacted via email of any new posts to your subscribed threads.

I try to check out the OB posts daily but if I happen to miss a couple of days entirely, is there a way to catch up by viewing the posts for the days that I've missed?

Thanks for any help.

Shirley, The Search page offers some options that you can use. If you leave the keyword and username blank and below that select 'Find Posts From' drop down box that says 'Any Date', you will see a choice of options including 'Your Last Visit' - with everything else default, selecting that should give you all posts that have been made since you last checked in at OB.

PS. There's nothing to be sorry about! That's just what this section of the forum is about - asking questions!

Shakkai,

Thanks so very much for your clear explanation. I'm sure I'll have all of this sorted out eventually!
