HELP please, Den. burana jade Female
Exclamation HELP please, Den. burana jade

I bought the plant about a week ago at a Florist. I am stumped! What is this hard thing the Den. is pottet in? A coconut? I can't put it in bark, because the roots have grown into the shell. The other problem - the leaves. So far 4 have fallen off, one sick one is still attached to the cane, but I'm sure it will fall off tomorrow. Once they get ugly looking they fall off very quickly. Is the plant virused? I am very worried! The flowers don't open either, they have been at this stage since I've bought it. Actually, I am shocked at how quickly the leaves turn sick and drop. I am hoping for a fast reply, in case it is a virus.
Thank you for reading and any replies!

I don't think the plant has a virus, the leaf damage seems bacterial. My concern is the roots, they are few in number and look damaged. If you try to separate them from the coconut(?) they might break.
Even if all the leaves fall, the Den can be left in the coconut until new canes appear. When the new canes grow their own roots, then you can pot it in bark.
At least that's what I would do, other people may have better advice.

Return it. That's no way to sell flowers.

Thank you violetta and Maureen! I no longer have that problem Den. First thing this morning I looked at it and more leaves were looking sick. Also, the leaves were WET. I don't even have a humidifier, so the liquid came from the plant itself. In a panic, I grabbed pot, saucer and dumped everything, then took the trash out immediatly. I am still wondering, what it was planted in.
Tomorrow I'll stop at the Flower Shop to see how their Den.'s are doing, if they haven't sold out yet. Thanks again for your input.

Well, I think that was a bit of overkill. You don't have the plant now so you won't be able to show what happened and ask for a refund...

I guess you're right Dan, but all I could think of, was to get that plant out of the house. It was the first time anything like that had happened to me.
I went to the Flower Shop today, but not one of the Den's were left. At $12 a piece they must've sold fast.
