Hello I'm new to the forum but I have loved orchids and all plants for awhile now and I have recently wanted to try my hand at growing some orchids from seed but I don't know of any reputable website that I want to put my trust into. Can you guys help me out?

Don't know if you know this, but growing orchid seed is a bit different to standard plant seed. In the wild it needs a fungus symbiot to grow. Since this can't (normally) be provided in cultivation, the seed is grown in sterile conditions with nutrient gel (known as flasking). Orchids take at least a couple of years from seed to flower, often much more. If you are still interested, look in the propagation forum to find out more.

Because it's so specialist seed isn't widely sold: most folks produce their own or swap it. I have seen some selling on ebay.

Rowangreen covered it well. Growing typical orchid seed is a specialist skill set, possible for dedicated individuals who take the time to educate themselves. Orchid Seedbank Project (google that) is possibly the only source regulary selling a wide variety of orchid seed, and 100% reputable. And also one of the best resources for anyone interested in learning to grow orchids from seed.

As was mentioned, orchid seed sowing takes some time and education. It isn't simply just buy the seeds and sprinkle them on a tree or sprinkle them on the ground. It doesn't work that way.

They must be sown in a sterile bottle with nutrients, as was mentioned to you prior.

Orchid seeds are very tiny, and look like dust.

If you are familiar with cooking, you're likely to be familiar with "Vanilla beans". "Vanilla beans" aren't really beans, (Vanilla is not remotely close to being in the bean family); they're the seed capsules of a species of orchid belonging to the genus Vanilla. The little tiny black dots that come out of a "Vanilla bean", those are the dead seeds of the orchid. That's how tiny they are.

You literally need to use a lens that magnifies at x60 magnification to begin to visually recognize living orchid seeds for being seeds.
