I was trying to unwind and relax a bit and watch some tv. I looked over at my favorite beallara - and saw that the top half of the spike was dangling down at a grotesque angle. It had been broken clean through and was hanging on by a thread. It was pregnant with 8 or 9 plump buds and who knows many more still pushing out from the tip - all after the break. It would have been my first rebloom for this one. I'd been watching the spike develop for weeks (at least 6, maybe 8). It should have started blooming in another 2 weeks.

I put so much time and energy pushing this one to the limit to try and have it really put on a show. And now - lost. Gone.

Someone must have knocked it over and put it back, hoping I wouldn't notice.

That's just so messed up. I don't have much in bloom right now and I was really counting on this to put on a show and liven the place up.

So sorry to hear that. It is heartbreaking. I did that to my own plant (a milt with 5 lovely buds on 1 spike and I lopped off the top 3 by bumping it when I was moving it.) I guess the only consolation is to try for next year. Not much help I realize. Can you at least enjoy the top part of the spike in a vase?

Thanks. Don't know if they're far enough along. I put it in a bud vase. We'll see.

When I did that to my Catt, I consoled myself with the fact that all of the energy that was going towards those buds is now going to go towards a new growth, so you should get an even better show next year!

I HATE IT when that happens!

It seems that beallaras are especially prone to it (I speak from experience)

So Sorry

I don't mean anything terrible by this, but I read this post shortly after learning that a good friend of mine who's wife was expecting their little girl, was presented with a stillborn baby. It kind of put my obsession with the orchids in perspective. Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest.

That is just too sad. I bumped the first rebloom bud on my first mount attempt Phal this morning, and through dumb luck, didn't seem to damage it...this time. But I've been there, being possibly the clumsiest man on the planet!
I did manage to destroy a new growth on a mini catt I was fussing with a few weeks ago. Its still sulking

I agree with a former poster...The best medicine is a new orchid purchase, preferably one in bud or bloom!
Best,
Tony
