Orchids by nature get drenched with monsoon rains and in the hot dry season they depend on morning dew (hence the idea of ice slowly watering the roots)....but this is a very good marketing hype but not advisable for beginners....
I put my plants under the faucet of a sink and drench them wet then I let them drip and position them in my windowsill....I have tried ice recently and it almost killed my Phal....the roots are not used to cold ice cubes....so I just drench them on my sink once a week instead of getting three ice cubes everyday to melt on them
