If you consider fertilization roughly equivalent to controlling your own diet, how frequently you feed plays a role.
I feed at roughly 75 ppm N at every watering (if you divide 8 by the %N on the label, the result is ml/L to use for 77 ppm N).
In summer, I average about 8 waterings and feedings per month, and about half that in winter. If I watered more often, I'd dilute further; less often, stronger applications.
