Giving a Phal Orchid a second chance. Female
Exclamation Giving a Phal Orchid a second chance.

I picked up another Phal. Orchid and he had some dry roots that I could see. And the base of his leaves were black/brown with rot. His leaves look so wrinkled I thought they were shriveled up. I wanted to give him a second chance.

Well, I got him home and removed him from his pot. To my horror it was worse than I thought. His roots were mostly dry or rotted. I felt bad for him and thought he wasn't going to make it. I rinsed him off with some warm water. I found two little nubs of new root growth and it raised my spirits of getting him back to good health.

I repotted him and I am keeping a close eye on him. I also trimmed his spike back, so he can concentrate on root growth. I also picked up a liquid fertilizer and it is 7-7-7. His leaves are not as wrinkled as they were. I also treated any wounds with cinnamon. And his "base" isn't black/brown with rot anymore. But here are my concerns:

His leaves are turning yellow. What does that mean? And what can I do?

I read a Seaweed supplement helps with root growth. Is there anything else I can use? I am not even sure I can get the Seaweed stuff.

it could be just the leaves dying off before new ones start to grow. You can get seaweed products on line very easily.

Okay. Thank you. Would it happen to more than one leaf though? He only has 3 and it is happening to 2. I keep him far away from my healthy orchid by the way.
