Dendrobium with Algae and Brown Leaves

I think the two issues are unrelated. I bought 3 clearanced Dens about a month ago. Since then I have repotted them in S/H and the roots are doing awesome. I can see new, vibrant green roots. Since I repotted, some of the leaves are turning brown. The canes still feel healthy. I hope my Dens are just adjusting to the new conditions. I also have algae growth in the S/H pot. I think I read this is normal. Is there any way to get rid of it? If there is, should I get rid of it?

not a s/h grower myself but from wat i read, a little algae doesnt do much harm unless it starts to kill the nose for some odd reason, and as for the browing leaves, i think itz just the leaves are just getting old and going through itz normal thing of falling off

some dendrobinae are naturally deciduous and you can expect leaves to fall off. As long as you can see good root growth on each cane and the canes themselves are not dessicating, then you should be ok. As for the algae, a little won't hurt, but too much defeats the purpose of growing s/h in clear plaastic pots.

Without a closeup inspection, it's hard to say, but those "nice green roots" look to me like old roots covered in algae. New roots tend to be white with green tips, or greenish white when the thin velamen layer is wet. Maybe I'm just not seeing the right ones.

Algae is not really an issue, but it is unsightly. A periodic preventive treatment (Physan or bleach) is the key.
