Rowangreen, that is a great idea, I should have thought of ordering with my Florist. Alas, it is to late - no more orchids for me. I have 20 and I'm a windowsill grower, I am out of space. Well, maybe just 1 more! I am currently bidding on a Onc. Twinkle "Snow" with 6 spikes. If I win that one, it will positively be my last orchid. Well, maybe

Paul Mc, sounds like you are speaking from experience. I'll probably have to spend some time in Rehab, recovering from my addiction. Seriously though, my livingroom is covered with orchids. It has 2 big bay windows and therefore the most light. I moved everything off the windowsills in anticipation of sub zero temps, which will surely set in next month, if not sooner. I hope they all make it through the dark time of the year. Inspite of the poor growing condition, I have 3 plants spiking. If all goes well through our long winter, maybe I'll add just ONE MORE in the spring.

Paul is right. You are an addict like the rest of us.
Soon you will be trying to figure out where you can put some lights.

Hmmm, that sounds serious. Vanda lover, you are a bad influence, bringing up the subject of lights - tsk, tsk!

Speaking of lights, lol...., you should go to Home Depot and get some T8 light fixtures and Daylight Bulbs (t8's) (their really cheap there) and set up your room with them. That's what I've done in the basement, lol... Yes, I know, I need to say it...

Hello, my name is Paul, and I'm an Orchid Addict. But they really brighten my day when I come home!!!!! Can't I buy just one more, please sir?!!!!!!

Paul Mc, you are I just wanted 2 or 3 orchids, because they are so beautiful. Now look at me - 20 orchids! Btw. I can't install lights, never tried and my 1st attempt just might end up with my demise. Then who would take care of my orchids?

There are ones that are easy to install. There are even ones that will screw in to a normal socket. I hang one of my vandas near a florescent floor lamp and it loves it. I also use an OTT light which is one I use for painting. When I'm finished painting I put the lamp next to the orchids. It is a floor type with a flexible neck and is designed to simulate sunlight to make it easy to read or work. I also use one for my bird in the winter.

I wish we had a place that stocked named orchids here but there is nothing. I've started to go online to look and named phals aren't to expensive on ebay. I'll probably end up getting two more but then I'll need a shelf and lights thanks to my north/south windows that get little sun during the winter.

Phals do well without a lot of light, so supplementing with a lamp will often help. I often have my phals in a North window and they do fine without additional light, but it partly depends on how large your windows are.
During the summer they love the North windows.
