ICU for phals...no more spag and bag for me! Male

I have one baby phal (it was a keiki transplant) that is in a clear pot with bark at the bottom and moss at the top. I started noticing some algae develop in the pot. Very lush and bright green stuff. I figured it wasn't good, so I scraped most of it off... is it better to leave in there? Will it attract fungus gnats?
