Den. Red Emperor "Ember" Divided We Fall
Default Den. Red Emperor "Ember" Divided We Fall

My Den. Red Emperor "Ember" (Den. New Comet x 1 Benikujyaku) bloomed 4/11 and I divided it about 3 weeks ago. No probs at first. A week ago, for my GH, I installed supplemental lighting (HPS 1000 W) on a light mover. Previously, light was 30-800 foot candles, mostly on the lower side of that range. 70% humidity, max temp 85, min temp 60. Media is Orchiata, perlite and charcoal. All other plants doing fine with the new light (and a 1st ever spike in my LC mini cat hybrid!). Since adding the light, I just noticed some yellowing. With the suppl. light, I get about 2500 foot candles. OrchidWiz says "this plant is composed of species of which 70% take high light. Grow this hybrid in bright indirect light conditions." So thinking I have exposed a vulnerable - just divided plant to suddenly brighter conditions, I have moved farther from the HPS light. Any thoughts???? Thanks.

I wouldn't worry too much about leaves yellowing and falling off, Dens of this type are very often deciduous after a year or two. Personally I kind of prefer the way they look when they're leafless anyway.
