Default Biggest orchid ever :)

Hello OBers!

Well I'm getting an office! Awesome news for me, moving on up the corporate ladder...a big office too! Currently, I rotate in a few blooming 'chids to my desk just to keep the world from looking too dull (definitely helps when I've been there 12 hours straight!)....I went and checked out my soon-to-be new digs and there is this fantastic corner for a plant! I was super excited until I started thinking about what I currently have....nothing big enough ....so my question is: what is the largest orchid plant out there? Could it be a decently tall plant to place on the floor, in my corner plant space? Thoughts?!?!?

Thanks!!

LOL... Well, if you google world's largest orchid you will find one over in one of the Asian countries that literally weighs thousands of pounds. I'm guessing that this would be too big, lol...

On a slightly more helpful note, phal schilleriana can get pretty big (forgive me, I'm assuming that you're growing at least one phal at the moment!). The spikes can get really big and can look fantastic on a pedestal

Congratulations on an office!! I also have recently gotten an office and have been thinking about orchids to put in there. It's awesome when your growing space spills over into work!! Hehehehe. I was thinking a Cymbidium on a pedestal. Cyms can be rather large.

Sorry for having hijacked your thread there but you did ask what the largest orchid was.

On a more serious note, I've been thinking about your question and wonder if you couldn't utilize a corner shelving unit and put several of your favorite orchids in it. Those corner units can be fairly tall and you can fill them with mounted and/or potted orchids for quite the display.

Make sure your office conditions will allow the orchid to live and/or thrive.
No matter how big an orchid is, it's not too attractive when it's dead

Nah...a phal in a corner corporate office is very ordinary...you can always get that from any flowershop.
I suggest a large specimen of Epidendrum cinnabarinum
It is so diverse yet easy to grow...
It is very tenacious and prolific that in a year you might have a jungle in your corner.
You can give away keikis since it loves to produce many babies.
The flower is just amazing and in full bloom it gives a spectacular show.

I am with Eyebaby on this! I suggest a large green foliage plant that will survive normal office conditions. None of the large orchids mentioned will be happy in an office environment. Of course, you could build a large Edwardian case and rotate plants on a weekly basis along with all the other work your new office job will demand.
