Amazing collection for a beginner. They're healthy looking specimens. What is your climate/growing zone/growing conditions?

Hi - thanks for the pix. Your plants are gorgeous. Do you grow in the house or outside??? Your vanilla is fab. I cannot grow this. All of my plants are outside in my screen patio around my pool. Can't wait to see them bloom.

Sadly Beezermommy we grow all of our plants inside. My room is upstairs and it can be quite a pain to carry all of them downstairs. Luckily, I have a box that all of the potted plants sit in. It makes it a whole lot easier. My mom, on the other hand, has a bay window that all of her plants sit in, so it isn't as difficult to carry them outside or to the sink.

Sadly my vanilla, the longer one, isn't that long anymore. Once I attached it to the tree fern pole I had a hard time finding a place to sit it in my room so I sat it on the floor. One day, in order for it to get light, I sat it on the chest at the bottom of my bed and my cat knocked it over. Over half of the plant died within the next month, so I cut it off. Even now the plant isn't growing like it should, but it is making a comeback whcih I am happy about.

Thanks for the comments everybody.

A day after I first posted this thread my mom came home with another orchid. I too had another orchid on the way, which arrived last Thursday. She bought a Potinara Hoku gem 'Sunspots' and I bought another Rhyncholaelia digbyana division. Here are pictures of the two newest members of our orchid family.

Haha. I have another orchid coming sometime late this week. Probably Saturday or Monday. I ordered it today, but it was too late to ship, so it will be shipped tomorrow. I bought a Slc. hazel boyd 'Apricot Glow'. I wanted a Slc. dreamcatcher, but nobody has them. I found out about this cutie, and wanted it instantly. I have put off buying one for some time, but finally jumped and bought one. Can't wait.

Hi Chris?
I just joined and saw this post of yours I believe from 2010! So now its 11 years later and I'm wondering if you and your mom still have so many orchids, 60+ by now? I hope your both still active with this great hobby!
If so I'd love to hear a bit of how it went over 11 years trying to grow out 60 orchids!
I once had tried vandals but in my NJ condo they didn't have the right conditions.
60 orchids is impressive, must have taken a lot of time watering, inspecting, repotting etc.
I once had a hobby of raising and breeding betta fish, (siamese fighting fish)! Constant water changes, cleanings etc...no time for social life!
All the best,
Dr. Dave
