Any potting medium suggestions for Trisetella Gemmata? Male
Default Any potting medium suggestions for Trisetella Gemmata?

It came in a pot lightly packed with sphag moss. I originally thought an oncidium medium mix would work with an inch layer of sphag around the roots to hold it in the pot. But the more I'm reading about them online I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't just fill the pot with sphag and then place it in the top.

What are your thoughts on this guys?

Mounted with moss underneath the roots in a moderate to high humidity terrarium with moderate light in intermediate temperatures.

Mounted with moss underneath the roots in a moderate to high humidity intermediate shade house will work too.

Trisetellas are in general not tolerant of low humidity or large swings in humidity.

They're tricky to grow in a traditional pot. Too small. Produces too few roots. Roots need good air circulation.

The smallest net pot you can find maybe, with a mix of sphag and small grade wood chips. But you still need to address the issue of humidity.

Mine is mounted with moss underneath the roots in a small terrarium with my Lygodactylus williamsi (Electric Blue Geckos). Lighting is a 27W 6500K UVB 2.0 CFL.

I, too, grow all but one of my Trisetellas mounted. Philip is correct that they don't produce a lot of roots. The one that is potted has roots but only in the moss growing on top of the sphagnum - it's doing well, but I will probably mount it also.
