Can I trim my V. Pachara Delight roots?
Question Can I trim my V. Pachara Delight roots?

Today I purchased a V. Pachara Delight orchid from an orchid show. The roots are over two feet long and too long for the best window for the plant. Can the roots be trimmed without damaging the plant? It has a bloom stem with buds and I do not want to cause the plant too much stress. Thank you in advance for any help you might have!

Welcome to OB!

Trimming living Vanda roots is a very bad mistake.

Does the same go for other orchids, like Catts or Dens? I don't want to cut the roots, but I've always wondered.

Kath, I don't know about Dendrobiums. But, I do trim Cattleya roots back when I need to without any problems.

thanks for the info! I'll do that. I have a Cattleya that is over 6 years old, and it's looking very "tired". How can I transplant it, and into what medium?
