Default sphagnum comes back to life?

I bought 2 kinds of moss. some chilean for 4 bucks and some NZ for 14 bucks, ouch.

The chilean sphagnum in my glass jars in the window turns brown really fast

The new zealand turns green and looks like it come back to life... It might be algae and thats cool too..I like algae..If it is algae why doesnt the chilean sphagnum turn green also? It just stays ugly brown and dead looking.
The long fiber NZ to me is worth the extra bucks anyway bec it looks better for top dressing and glass planters. Smells cleaner too IMO.

The chilean would be fine just for burying in a pot but the fact it still dirty brown looking.

Ill get some pick so you can see the GREEN

Most sphagnum has viable spores in it that can germinate. It could be that your particular Chilean stuff got "sterilized" some how, or is old, or something that has rendered the spores "unviable',

good chilean moss should do the same thing then

Its really neat that it comes back to life like that but they are in my little window cookers getting good light and thats why It looked like algae. then I see nice little green wheat like stems going green
