Default Recommended humidifier anti-bacterial additive?

What anti-bacterial water additive do you use for an evaporative humidifier. I have a 3-1/2 gal Hamilton Beach TrueAir I just picked up second hand. I found the filter/wicks on Amazon and I see they have several additive products. I surfed the Home Depot and Amazon sites for water additive products I could buy locally, but came up empty.

not sure if you keep any handy, but the stuff they usually sale commercially is just a diluted version of physan 20

That occurred to me, but I'm wondering whether that might end up being more costly than a product intended for a humidifier. What dilution of physan 20? I also have some concerns whether physan 20 is something I want to have in the air everywhere in my apartment from a human health perspective.

the concentration in physon 20 was pretty high, compared to the solution for humidifiers, but the exact numbers are something I don't know off the top of my head. For my humidifiers I basically use a few drops on a regular basis, and a "squirt" if they tend to get funky

-bump-

Any other suggestions or do most people just use plain tap water without an additive? I imagine the chlorine in the water may be sufficient, as long as I change filters regularly.
