Yellow on Phal Leaves? Female
Default Yellow on Phal Leaves?

When I went to water my Phal today, I noticed this:

What does this mean? And is this bad? The side that this yellow is on is the side that always faces the window (I have my phal in a north-facing window).

Other than that the leaves look great. They probably need a bit more humidity though. Would low humidity cause the yellowing?

That's usually a sign of over watering and root damage.

Since you have a clear plastic pot, you can see what's going on with the roots that hug the inside lining of the pot.

But...

The trick is finding out what's really going on with the roots in the middle.

Also check to see if there are any healthy root tips growing.

Prolonged low humidity will usually result in the roots wrinkling, and eventually the roots' demise.

Low humidity and moisture levels also impair proper bud and flower development.

Try to avoid such things in the long run. One or two days is not a big deal, consistent low humidity will be a problem in the making.

It may not be as bad as it looks, although I would check the roots as Philip suggests to make sure.

I had one do something very similar and it turned out to just be one leaf dying. In my case there were several roots emerging near where the leaf joined the plant and it seems they just strangled off the leaf. I was really worried at the time because usually it is the lowest leaf which will fall.

But as I said, best to still check what is going on with the roots.

Hey guys, check out my pic again. See those little black spots? I just noticed them today. What are those??!! I examined the leaves and a few other leaves have one or two small spots. Is it a fungus? I'm so worried. I checked out the roots and they're actually better than when I bought the plant in April.

Those little black spots are usually caused by water droplets on the leaves not drying off fast enough, or from a bit too much water.

Maybe reduce the water just a little bit. Watering less does less damage than watering more. From there you can make adjustments.

As for checking for humidity, try and find a thermometer that also measures humidity.

If you are misting, stop immediately.

No I am not misting, and any time water gets on the leaves from watering I wipe them off.
