I have always been told that if you buy one orchid, you're hooked! And sure enough...it's true! Can someone who's a beginning share with me what your orchid purchasing experiences have been like? Funny but true orchid stories?
I'm a little shy to chat, but I like orchids and I'd like to meet someone online who is interested in this hobby and just beginning.

Welcome--I am in FL too and am also a beginner and new to the board .

I have a few of the following: Dendrobiums, Cattleyas, Phals, and Vandas. I am trying them all to see how things go. I probably have about 18 all together. I am growing them on my lanai. My lanai is not screened.

So far some are showing new growth, etc. I have a few in bloom, but I have purchased them that way so I can't take any credit for that yet!

I think you'll like it here--it is a nice group of people.

You will find that you will learn quite abit from people here on this board and everyone is willing to help you with your questions. Another Central Florida person....there are a few orchid societies in the area that you could also join that might be able to help also. Good luck and welcome to the addiction!!

Nice to meet you and don't be shy! Curious to know, what was the first buy that got you hooked?
Welcome to the wonderful world of orchids

I have all types at this point, proving just what an addiction orchid collecting can be! LOL! I've got phalies in several colors, cats, and dendrobiums. Nothing too exotic right now. Since I live in Central Florida, I'm kind of lucky because I have the heat. What I'm trying to learn is how much heat is too much (no sun, of course!) and whether or not they really CAN live in AC. Any suggestions? Thank you for replying!

Differrent species and hybrids have different requirements. Some of them can tolerate heat to different degree, some of them prefer intermediate temperatures and some of them need cold to thrive.
