Thanks for the tip Becca! I didn't realize it would come without one, I'll be sure to look for it.

Alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and a quick pass of a flame arent going to kill viruses. You should be getting your tools red hot to be sure they are sterile.

What about the household cleaners that claim to "kill 99% of viruses"?

I ended up getting a Bernzomatic ST2200T model that is small, has a ignite botton built in and runs off butane. Homer Depot had it for around $25.00. It is compact, easy to handle and wow the sound of the blue flame is very cool.

I also had heard a supersaturated TSP solution was an effective for sterilization at a local orchid society's show and sale. I tried it and would advise not using it for clay pots. I left some clay pots and saucers in the solution for days and it started eating away at the pots. Now after several rinses/clean water soaks, the TSP is still precipitating inside and out and the terra cotta is still coming off. Seems fine for plastic and metal, but better bake or use bleach for the clay.

Just my

Wow thanks for the tip on TSP! Wouldn't have thought about it, and left it in there like u did! I've got comments ab home cleaners that "kill 99% of viruses" and on why they use what they use in restaurants, but this is an old thread... I used to work in the restaurant industry (love it) but now I make jewelry, and use a big daddy torch (acetylene), hate the butane ones, unless making a couple crème brûlées, but that's what I use for tools... I'm comfortable with them... If you're not... Don't use them, find something else!
