Ludisia discolor, my first orchid - Orchid Board

I have just received my first orchid and I wish to know if I should leave it in the three inch pot or move it to a larger size. I have read about care for jewel orchids and most articles suggest a shallow bowl shape in which to grow the plant. General advice is to ensure a high humidity and suggests misting and having the pot on a gravel, water filled saucer. The plant is only small with three litttle leaves so I am wondering if I should do any of the above now or leave it alone until it shows signs of new growth. Thanks.

i would leave it till it grows larger...it should be in a soil/light bark mix and will need to be kept moist....

I agree, wait till it shows new growth. It seems kind of small to be moving to my eyes.

I agree leave it as it is. I'm new to growing Ludisia as well but I've been told they can grow in a wide range of conditions.

Mine is in a soil, bark & perlite mix in a standard sort of pot. I find that here in the UK, were we are generally quite humid, that it does not need misting or artificially keeping humid. Even in my house with central heating on just now it seems to dry quite slowly, once the central heating is off the humidity in the house will go up and it definately won't need it.

I would advise just keeping an eye on how quickly it dies out and make sure to not let it dry out too much.
