Cultural differences between Vandas and Ascocentrums

Damian, I repotted every 'chid last year from clay pots to clear pots with lots of holes and slits on the bottom and around the sides. Over the months, I've had to put some of those pots into clay pots for stablility. Clear pots with aliflor and a tall unwieldy plant is not a good combination

Most of the time, when watering or feeding, I use my sprayer rather than pouring the mixture through. I shoot the nozzle down into the aliflor and it gets a nice even slow feeding, rather than all the fert being in the tray below it

I hear you on the stability issue

I use a sprayer most of the time too.. l I suppose if you poured using a lot of water with fertiliser in it you could get the balls soaked really well but it seems a waste..
especially as we're under water restrictions at the moment and by spraying you can use less and then you can just flush every now and then in case of built up salts..

Was there any readjustment period when you put the Asctm in aliflor or had it not been growing in anything else [like bark] previously?

Just one question: By Sue's photo's there is a big difference in the sizing of both plants, I'm wondering what is the final size of the smaller version "ASCTM" In height about span of the leaves?
This will be the deciding factor for me.

The Asctm ampullaceum is in a 6" wide pot, and the plant itself is 6" across as well as 6" tall.
