Default Florida Cold Weather

Sheesh, my room looks like a greenhouse. It is going on 2 weeks now since I had to bring them in the house & it looks like next week before it will be safe to put them back out. On the bright side the phals are showing lots of spikes.

All the chids have been stuck in their room for at least two weeks now. Supposed to be a warmup mid-week but I won't move anything out yet.

This weather is horrid

Where in Fl are you?

Thumbs up G'Mornin Floridians!

I'm down here in SE Florida (a transplant from Cincinnati) and LOVE-LOVE-LOVE this nice change of (COLD) weather. Its been a very long time that we have sustained below 55 for so many days in a row. It wasn't until yesterday I actually broke out a space heater to take the edge off the cold in the house. I keep the house at about 50-60, that is perfect for me.

My babies were all brought in as soon as they said 42 degrees w/a north wind. That wind will kick your babies butts and bring that temp down and melt them.

Anyway, it looks like I live in an Orchid forest.. which is pretty nice. Not much room for visitors however. My babies have the preferred seating for now.. LOL.

For all you 'nutherners'... hurry up and get your citris etc before the prices get jacked up, if they haven't already.... the farmers here are just besides themselves. Not much of the oranges, grapefruit, or strawberries made it, so they say. (But many started saying that when it was only 60 degrees) By the by.... Did ya hear... gasoline prices have risen coz of the cold weather. That is sure a new one on me!
Ok.. LOL

And to beat all, I have 8+ phals in bud, my little stars is bursting their little hinies off too! My home just smells delightful!

Keep it warm!
Hugs to all & Happpy New Year!

Hi cb977,

I live in Cocoa Beach

Hi JackiBlu,

I moved here from Iowa a while back where it was recently -27, so the cold here is just an inconveniance of sorts. The good thing is the citrus gets a lot sweeter as long as it doesn't get too cold.

Blech...I hate this cold weather. If I wanted to be cold, I would have visited my parents in Utah for another month.

My apartment looks like a greenhouse, too. I'm praying for a warm-up - I want warmth.

I can't bring mine in... so I'll have to see what kind of damage has been done. Crossing fingers!

Yup, me too, chids in the florida room, chids in the dining room, and that's just the over flow from the garage.

Hopefully this will be the BIG ONE and no more long periods of cold for the rest of the year. I should have everyone back outside by wednesday.

My wife is just thrilled with all the anoles climbing the walls (NOT!).

My oncidium twinkle was in full spike mode with just a few blooms opening up. For some reason, they seem to have a pinkish hue this year (normally white with yellow center) Could be from overdose of superthrive or something. I'll post a pic soon...

I have water running on the vandas to keep them warm since the ground water comes out at 62 degrees and keeping my fingers crossed for minimal damage. This is my worst nightmare. I HATE THIS COLD!!!!!
